The current minister, Greg Pearce, is in hot water over allegations that he was sent home from Parliament last week because he was drunk.
While Mr Pearce said he had had only a few drinks at a Liberal Party fund-raiser, Premier Barry O’Farrell delivered him a stern warning that ‘‘this sort of behaviour won’t be tolerated’’.
However, Mr Ward said yesterday that he didn’t have eyes on Mr Pearce’s job.
‘‘I’m not interested in a ministerial post at the moment,’’ Mr Ward said.
‘‘I’m not saying that wouldn’t happen one day but at the moment I’m in my first term. I’m having a lot of fun and I’m
really enjoying doing something for the community.’’
Mr Ward defended the Minister, saying that no-one has come forward with proof he was drunk.
‘‘Greg was up until all hours of the night the night before, the upper house was sitting until 3am, he admitted he had a few drinks,’’ Mr Ward said.
‘‘If you haven’t had much to eat and you’re tired, that can have a profound impact. I think people have got to be a bit more humanistic about this.
‘‘This guy was not dancing on a couch with his underwear on his head.
‘‘If his ultimate crime is he was pretty tired and exhausted and had one or two drinks, well, how could you hang the bloke out to dry for that?’’
