Wollongong MP Noreen Hay announced the forum on Wednesday after the state government this week revealed it would spend more than $340 million revitalising Newcastle after the long-term lease of its port.
The Illawarra was last year promised just $100 million from a similar lease of Port Kembla.
Ms Hay said NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson would attend the forum and encouraged residents and businesses to "unite" to demand more money from the privatisation of the port.
The forum will be held at 11am on Thursday at the Port Kembla Leagues Club.
