More than 1000 students from 13 schools across the region and Campbelltown performed in the festival at WIN Entertainment Centre.
This year, schools were invited to include cake, the festival’s signature item, in their works as a tribute to Wakakirri’s 21st birthday.
Wakakirri state co-ordinator Lisa Gorman said some schools had been preparing for the popular festival since the end of last year.
She said works often became a ‘‘whole school’’ project as the community came together to create environmental-friendly dance numbers.
‘‘We are strongly slanted towards reducing waste, reusing and recycling,’’ she said.
‘‘We really encourage sustainability and look for that ‘less is more’ look where schools have been resourceful in their works.’’
Wakakirri is a national festival that encourages schools to create stories with a social message.
