For new Mount Keira Demonstration School principal Michelle Barnes, it is an exciting time.
Formerly the assistant principal at Woonona Public, Mrs Barnes is looking forward to working with the school community and getting to know its 91 students.
"I'm very excited to be here at Mount Keira," she said. "I see the role [of principal] as celebrating the current successes within the school and building upon its existing strengths."
Mrs Barnes will also teach a stage two class this year.
Across the Illawarra, seven public schools have a new principal, four of whom were previously principals at other schools.
Former Corrimal Public principal Pamela Grosse is now at Farmborough Road Public School, Grant Schaefer has come from Exeter Public to take on the principal's job at Lakelands Public School, Stephen Mayhew left Cooma Public to become principal at Mount Brown Public and Craig Redfern is principal at Unanderra Public School after leaving Campbellfield.
Timothy Fisher, former assistant principal at Berkeley Public, takes the helm at Corrimal Public School and Jennifer Flowers is now principal at Five Islands Secondary College after being deputy principal at Warrawong High.
