A self-confessed hobby trainer who only works a few pups around a full-time job with the Roads and Maritime Service, Philip Goodsell has the chance to right his record in the Nowra Puppy Classic (520m) final.
The South Coast mentor had the favourite for the Group 3 event two years ago, but the original final was washed out and Goodsell's charge Avoid Island wasn't the same two weeks later.
Now the trainer, based at Falls Creek, has two finalists in the event, Stilton Blue and kennelmate Hollie Anne.
The pair have drawn alongside each other in four and five respectively after contrasting semi-final performances on Monday.
Stilton Blue rattled home for fourth in his qualifier after being posted wide early while Hollie Anne chased home Quick To Go in the other semi.
"Hollie Anne pulled up really well and Stilton Blue has got a couple of sore muscles where he was trod on on the foot, but they're all right," said Goodsell, who laughed: "Every day is a long day holding down a full-time job and tending to eight pups."
