Bianka O'Brien, 31, her 12-month-old son Jude, and 27-year-old Chris Noble were killed when an explosion ripped through a convenience store and surrounding buildings in Darling Street just after 4am last Thursday.

Since then, the street has been virtually abandoned as contractors clean up debris and assess damage at the explosion site and surrounding buildings.

Local MP Jamie Parker said businesses in the area were suffering financially in the aftermath.

"Our community's lifeblood is the high street, and obviously all those businesses are suffering," he said. "The lack of foot traffic [has] a huge impact, and it's hard to admit because of the tragic nature of this event."

One business owner said the lack of foot traffic to her store meant she had made just $82 in total since the explosion. There were also concerns about sanitation, after business owners spoke of shops full of rotting meat and vegetables.

On Sunday, a section of Darling Street was still cut off from Cordelia's Cafe on the north side to Merton Street in the south. Some businesses had been re-opened after the exclusion zone was reduced earlier in the day, but customers stayed away.

Belinda Rowe, whose fashion store employs three people, said the impact from lost business was ongoing.

"They've lost two days and a full weekend of trade," she said. "For some it can be the difference in whether or not they can pay rent."

John Davis said his newsagency would re-open on Monday morning, but still would not be able to operate fully.

"I think it's a very complex situation for everyone," he  said on Sunday.

"Inclusive of the investigation, the criminal aspect, the economic aspect, the community networks, supply chains, meat trucks trying to get from out west to IGA ... there's been great difficulties."

An investigation into the blast was ongoing.
