After failing to make the finals a year ago, the competition powerhouse completed a stunning 12-month turnaround to claim the silverware at WIN Stadium.
A pair of super second half goals from Shaun McRae and Joe Crowley guided the Fury to the gusty victory. It consigned Bulli to their third straight grand final loss - a title they have failed to win since 1986.
Fury player-coach Noel Spencer said he was ecstatic with the result.
‘‘We spoke during the week about character, commitment and energy. The whole thing that goes into a grand final. The mental battle, which we know Bulli have struggled with in the past, so we knew the long the game went on, we would come away with the chocolates,’’ Spencer said.
‘‘I am really pleased that we executed the game plan today. Everything that I asked the boys to do, they went out and did.’’
The Fury were given a boost before kick-off with David Hartas recovering in time from a groin problem to start the match.
For much of the first half the late addition was entrenched in a battle with Bulli star Dean Heffernan.
The pair locked horns on several occasions in a fiery but scrappy opening stanza.
It saw neither side craft a decent attempt on goal as the scores went level at 0-0 heading into the break.
The Fury upped their intensity in the second half and were quickly rewarded with the match’s opening goal 8 minutes after the change of ends.
Bradley Welch picked up the ball on the left flank and whipped in a deadly cross for Shaun McRae to head stunningly into the top corner.
The goal forced Bulli to chase the game, but their usually potent attack failed to find an opening against a resilient Fury back-four.
And just as they were throwing caution to the wind to find their equaliser, the match was put to bed.
Joe Crowley found space on the edge of the area before firing a stunning half volley into the side netting to seal the 2-0 result with six minutes remaining.
‘‘It was really pleasing that what we have worked on has really come into the fray today,’’ Spencer said.
‘‘There was some super deliveries and there could have been a few more as well. It is just a great result.’’
Bulli tried to pull a goal back at the death but Jared Fish had his shot crash off the post and across the face of goal.
It capped off a frustrating second half for the League Championship winners, who failed to get into their stride throughout a nervy performance.
Defeated coach Ben Smith said his opponents were deserved victors.
‘‘There wasn’t many chances there in the game. You would think the game would be good on this pitch but it wasn’t a really good game,’’ he said.
‘‘There was a lot of long balls from both teams so that might have been the pressure of the day.
‘‘It is hard to pick at this time where it went wrong but I am the coach and it is my responsibility. We will have to improve but I can’t ask more from the players.
‘‘They have given everything they have got all year and did the same again today so couldn’t be prouder of them.’’
