The 26-year-old Dominos Pizza driver made a delivery to Wegit Way at 7pm on Tuesday.
Afterwards, while stopped at the intersection of Wegit and Kully ways, a 12-year-old boy opened the driver's side door of the car and demanded the driver hand over money.
The boy, who Lake Illawarra police said is "well known" to them, grabbed the driver's shirt by the shoulder and yelled "give me your money".
The pizza delivery driver accelerated the car, breaking the grip of the boy and escaping.
Lake Illawarra police Inspector Paul Allman said police are investigating two children over the incident.
The two are wanted for demanding money with menace.
Police will continue their investigation on Wednesday.
