Rock'n'roll musicians took to the mall's newly completed amphitheatre on Saturday afternoon for a series of short concerts organised by the city.
Destination Wollongong brand marketing manager Tabitha Galvin said the show was to celebrate the end of construction works and to create atmosphere.
"One of the jobs of Destination Wollongong and Wollongong City Council is to show [the mall] is as much an entertainment precinct and a dining precinct as somewhere to go shopping," she said.
"Live music shows that the mall is a lot more than just a retail precinct."
The performances by bands including The Rockers, The Con Artists, The Escarpment and the Swinging Beef, were a prelude to the Steel City Sounds exhibition opening at Wollongong City Gallery on November 21.
The exhibition, a collection of band memorabilia, photographs, videos and art, celebrates 50 years of rock and roll in Wollongong.
