Former Australian quick Brett Lee has endorsed the selection of Sixers teammate Josh Hazlewood and is adamant he is ready to make his debut in the Gabba Test on Wednesday.
Hazlewood was among three new additions, along with Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Starc, in the Australian side for the second Test against India.
He will become the 440th player to receive the Baggy Green.
"I think it is the right call. He has got so much to offer," Lee, who was in Wollongong with the Sixers, said.
"He is 6'5 tall, gets some bounce, is 23 years of age and he has only played five one-dayers for his country but he has been bowling really well the last 12 months. He is pushing up to 145km/h plus, so that is good pace."
Hazlewood and Starc's addition to the Australian Test side means they will be unavailable for the Sixers' opening Big Bash match against the Melbourne Renegades on Friday.
While he admitted it was a massive loss, Lee said their absence was part and parcel of the game.
"At the end of the day it is about us being the breeding ground to push on the guys who go on and play sort of higher honours," he said.
"We have got no dramas if we lose a quarter of a squad, or a third of a squad to guys being in the Australian squad.
"We could be selfish and go we have lost two key players, which is the truth, but we are not like that."
Lee, who played his junior cricket with Oak Flats, was in Wollongong for the Big Bash team's final warm-up match before the tournament.
The Sixers were defeated in a dramatic super over match against an Illawarra Invitational XI at North Dalton Park.
"It wasn't about winning or losing, to me it was about trying to execute my skills," Lee said.
"Most importantly this is a chance for a couple of guys to get in and have a bit of a hit and also for bowlers, to get some more miles in the legs before Friday."
