Joel Bill appeared before Port Kembla Local Court on Monday on two outstanding warrants, as well as a fresh charge of drug possession, after police allegedly found him in possession of a small amount of amphetamine.
In documents tendered to the court during Bill's bail application, arresting police claim the 24-year-old has been taunting them on social media since he failed to turn up to court in September and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
"[He was] fully aware of his wanted status," officers wrote.
They also asked the court not to release him on bail.
"Police are of the opinion that the accused would pose an extreme risk of reoffending if he is granted bail and would pose an unacceptable [safety] risk to the community," they said.
Bill had been due to face court on domestic violence and driving offences but failed to show up, prompting the presiding magistrate to issue warrants for his arrest.
He has spent the past three months at large, with police claiming he has been actively avoiding them.
However, officers received a tip-off on December 20 that Bill was at his girlfriend's house in Berkeley and went to investigate. A woman who answered the door initially told police no one was home, however soon allowed police inside to search the premises.
It is alleged Bill was found hiding in a wall cavity behind a small door.
He allegedly had 2.64 grams of amphetamine in his possession.
He was taken to Lake Illawarra police station and charged with drug possession.
In court on Monday, magistrate Mark Douglass refused to release Bill on bail, saying while his criminal history was not overly lengthy, his life appeared to be "somewhat out of control".
The case will return to court early next year.
