Emergency services were called to the Bellambi Point property around 8.40pm, following reports two people were injured in a trail bike crash.
Police and paramedics found a Bellambi man severely injured at the base of a 3.5-metre embankment.
Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
‘‘Police have ascertained that the deceased had recently purchased the motorcycle," Wollongong police Inspector Brian Wyver said.
"On that day, he was riding the motorcycle without a helmet at the Bellambi sewerage works property, which is a large well-kept lawn and recreational area.
‘‘At the time he had a pillion passenger who was wearing a helmet.
‘‘While riding at an undetermined speed, believed to be excessive, he was unable to negotiate a turn, causing the motorcycle to [go] over an embankment, which dropped away steeply.
‘‘He has collided with the ground directly below the embankment while his pillion passenger has fallen from a rear pillion position, breaking an arm.’’
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
