Socceroos keeper out to grab overseas interest

Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan says he's open to offers as the Asian Cup looms as his audition for European superpowers.

The 22-year-old is rumoured to be in the sights of Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and other big European clubs following his stunning form for his Belgian outfit Club Brugge.

"It's obviously flattering to have the interest," Ryan said.

"Interest is just interest. You never know if it's true or not until something solid comes through but it's obviously flattering nonetheless."

Ryan, entrenched as Australia's first-choice keeper for the Asian Cup, which starts against Kuwait on Friday, feels ready to take his career to the next club level.

"In the last few months, I have come along in leaps and bounds; my performances have been getting better and better," he said.

"I'm very happy with where I am at Club Brugge, we are always going to be in contention there for trophies and [UEFA] Champions League.

"If something was to come along, obviously we would sit down and look at it if it's beneficial. And if it's in a better league, a better team, then I feel as if I would back myself and be confident in my ability to go there and do well."

Ryan's stocks have soared since leaving the A-League and Central Coast Mariners in 2013, with the shot-stopper admitting having to pinch himself at how quickly he has risen through the ranks.

"From when I first started as a professional, just to come to where I am now and look back at what has happened - it's unbelievable," he said.

"Everything seems to be coming so quick and going so fast, it's crazy.

"But I'm really loving my football. We all sacrifice so much - being away from our families and going out, all those sorts of things - and it's all worth it."

Ryan said his sole focus was the prospect of delivering Australia an Asian Cup triumph on home soil, while still keeping an eye on fellow goalkeeping squad members Eugene Galekovic and Mitch Langerak, believing they're worthy challengers for his spot.

"I never want to get comfortable," he said.

"Being in the national team, I don't think anyone, no matter who you are, should be comfortable and that is exactly the way it is with me." - AAP
