UPDATE 12.30PM: Traffic is now re-opening on Appin Road in a contraflow pattern near the West Cliff Colliery. There is one lane operating in each direction. There is heavy traffic congestion in the area, with significant delays expected.
UPDATE 11.15AM: Chief Inspector Shane Howard of Campbelltown Police said Appin Road would be closed indefinitely until forensic teams had finished analysing the scene.
"The crime scene teams are doing forensics on the scene. It could be hours," he said.
There was no further information available on the truck driver, the deceased ute driver, or the cause of the crash.
EARLIER: A man died in a crash between a car carrier and a ute on Appin Road near Bulli Tops on Saturday morning.
About 6.20am emergency services were called to a collision on Appin Road.
The male driver of a ute died. The male truck driver was assessed on site by Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Crash investigators will continue inquiries into the events leading up to the crash.
Live Traffic reports Appin Road is closed in both directions, to allow inquiries to be carried out at the scene.
Eastbound traffic is closed at the set of lights near West Cliff Colliery.
Westbound traffic is closed at the M1 Princes Highway/Mount Ousley Road.
Motorists are urged to use Picton Road as an alternative
