The 62-year-old engineer, author and adventurer was in the Illawarra at the weekend, where he set sail on a journey of epic proportions.
Mr Posselt's Kayak4earth quest, dubbed Connecting Climate Chaos, involves paddling and dragging his kayak 8000 kilometres from Canberra to Paris in time for the United Nations Climate Summit in November.
He hopes to deliver a message to the rest of the world - Australia wants to fight global warming.
After burning his feet walking out of Canberra and being pushed down Macquarie Pass by his 80-kilogram kayak, Mr Posselt hit Lake Illawarra on Saturday morning.
He reached Stanwell Park the next day and by late afternoon on Monday, he was resting at Cronulla.
After a bit of recovery and repair time, he will attend a reception at the Opera House on Saturday.
From Sydney, Mr Posselt will fly to the Gulf of Mexico and paddle upstream along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, through the Great Lakes and to the top of Canada.
He will then fly to Britain and paddle along the Thames, across the Channel and up the Seine to Paris.
"It's my little contribution to the science of global warming," he said.
"I think there are many Australians who accept science and aren't represented by our government and therefore I will try and represent those people.
"It's a big expense and it's a big effort, but I feel I owe it to my grandkids."
