3:10pm: The Bureau of Meteorology has warned a severe weather system bringing large hail stones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding is likley to affect Camden on Thursday afternoon.

The severe weather warning earlier included the greater Illawarra but according to the BOM the storm has headed north towards the Hunter Valley.

If severe thunderstorms develop in Wollongong or surrounding areas, a more detailed severe thunderstorm warning will be issued. 

2.15pm: The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for Thursday afternoon for destructive winds, large hail stones and heavy rainfall in the greater Illawarra, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee areas.

In a repeat of Wednesday afternoon's predicted thunderstorms, the Bureau of Meteorology warns that severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Bargo and Hill Top at 2.10pm.

Wollongong missed out on the worst of the weather on Wednesday, however the region is expected to experience storms on Thursday .

According to the BOM the thunderstorms are moving towards the north from Bargo. 

They are forecast to affect Picton, the area south of Wilton and Thirlmere by 2:40 pm and Camden, Appin and Oakdale by 3:10 pm.

Large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should: move cars under cover or away from trees, secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony, keep clear of fallen power lines, keep clear of creeks and storm drains and avoid walking, or driving through flood water. 

If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. Unplug computers and appliances. Avoid using the phone during the storm.  Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
