Only a handful of operators south of Sydney have been recognised with gold or silver at the highest level in the Australian tourism industry.
But former Wollongong residents Ken and June Banks have consistently been recognised at the state and national level since 2010.
The last two years have been back-to-back silver for Mollymook Beach Waterfront apartments, this year in the hosted accommodation category.
The Banks won gold at the 25th annual NSW Tourism awards in November.
They believe attention to detail, a focus on guests' privacy and customer service and product quality at the highest level are secrets to success.
The Banks run a twin apartment complex they tailor-built for the couples market.
And as a final touch to every visit they present guests with a book they have published with information about the area.
In 2010 they won the National TakeABreak Award for Best Beach Accommodation after winning at the state level in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
In 2009 they won the People's Choice Beach Accommodation category at the National TakeABreak Awards and in 2010 Mollymook Beach Waterfront apartments took out the Tourism Champion Award at the National Small Business Awards.
The Banks' first foray into the accommodation industry came in 2001 when they took over management of the four-star Mollymook Cove Apartments.
In 2004, the Banks developed Mollymook Seaview and in 2007 they bought what became Mollymook Beach Waterfront.
