Sienna Wiltshire's lawyer said the 20-year-old aspiring model had suspected for a while that her boyfriend had been cheating, however they were still in a relationship and had been intimate on the evening of March 7 before going out separately that night.
Wiltshire found herself at Pepe's on the Beach, in the Novotel Northbeach, around 10pm, and spotted her boyfriend and a girl in conversation on the outside deck area.
She approached the pair and asked what was going on, prompting the girl to say, "This has got nothing to do with me, you guys have to figure this out at another time".
Defence lawyer Olga Nikolovski said Wiltshire's boyfriend turned to her and said "I don't f---ing want you", embarrassing her in front of the now-laughing crowd.
The insult prompted Wiltshire to lash out, punching the girl in the face and causing her nose to start bleeding immediately.
Wiltshire then ran from the scene and hid behind a tree, until security guards spotted her and escorted her off the premises.
She later ran into the ocean in a moment of despair, but was plucked out by one of the security guards.
The victim received medical treatment for her nose the following day. It was not broken.
Wiltshire was charged four days later with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Pleading guilty to the charge in Port Kembla Court on Tuesday, Wiltshire said she was horrified by what she'd done.
"She lost all faculties of reason," Mrs Nikolovski said in describing Wiltshire's actions.
"It was not premeditated ... she lost self control."
Mrs Nikolovski asked the court to spare her client a conviction over the crime. However the magistrate, Michael Stoddart, refused the request, saying it would be inappropriate not to record a conviction.
"Your relationship broke up, naturally you were upset at how things panned out, but that's life," he said. "People are in and out of relationships all the time. We all get upset but you can't react by using violence.
"This other lady said it's got nothing to do with her and then she's punched in the face by you; she's an innocent victim, caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time."
The magistrate placed Wiltshire on a good behaviour bond for two years, warning her not to commit any further crimes or she would be resentenced for the crime.
