Roads and Maritime Services has been conducting an investigation of possible upgrades to the pass.
Part of the project involved assessing previous studies to determine which of the proposed routes are suitable, as there have been a number of proposed locations for a link road down the escarpment.
At present there is land reserved for a road between the hairpin on Bulli Pass to the end of Memorial Drive.
There is also corridor of land between Lawrence Hargrave Drive at the bottom of Bulli Pass and the end of Memorial Drive.
There is as yet no funding set aside for any upgrade.
In April Kiama MP and Parliamentary Secretary Gareth Ward said the report would be released to the community ‘‘in the coming weeks’’.
However, an RMS spokeswoman said the release has since been pushed back about two months.
‘‘Roads and Maritime Services is now also reviewing and updating crash and traffic data to most accurately reflect current conditions, to fully inform a potential upgrade of Bulli Pass,’’ the spokeswoman said.
‘‘The report is now expected to be released by the end of July.’’
The investigation of an upgrade is because RMS recognises the need to provide a safer alternative into the Illawarra other than Mt Ousley Road.
This is in part due to the increasing traffic volumes along Mt Ousley Road and the fact Bulli Pass becomes the main route in or out of the Illawarra.
