The sun might have been shining, but a frigid July 1 morning had many people reaching for that extra layer of clothing.
Temperatures dipped to 9.3 degrees at Bellambi and 6.7 degrees at Albion Park early on Wednesday morning - a crisp welcome to what's typically the region's coldest month.
Some sunshine provided warmth during the day, however the wind chill meant the temperature felt slightly cooler than it really was at times.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, cold mornings are expected to continue for the rest of the week, particularly for inland parts of the region.
Overnight lows will dip as low as 2 degrees at Albion Park and 7 degrees along the coast on Friday night, while daytime maximum temperatures will be stuck in the mid-teens next week.
Wollongong can expect a partly cloudy Thursday with a top of 16 degrees.
A gale warning has been issued for the Illawarra coast.
