Police on patrol spotted a white Hyundai parked near the corner of George Street and Cliff Road around 11pm on Sunday, and spoke to the driver. Detective Inspector Ben Hopper said ‘‘suspicions about the driver were raised,’’ leading officers to search the man.
‘‘Police found a quantity of MDMA, and placed him under arrest,’’ Det Insp Hopper said.
Police say 22 tablets were found on the man, 19, from Campbelltown.
During the arrest, the man allegedly punched one officer in the chest and caused the other officer to sustain two fractures to her finger.
The man was taken to Wollongong police station where he was charged with assault officer in the execution of duty, resist officer in the execution of duty, and supply prohibited drug.
He will appear before Port Kembla Local Court on July 28. The two police officers were later treated at Wollongong Hospital.
