The truck came unstuck on the northbound on-ramp between the M1 Princes Motorway and Five Islands Road, about 8.30am Tuesday.
The on-ramp is closed and northbound traffic on the motorway is delayed while a heavy tow truck is brought in to clear the site.
Gouge marks in the roadway and damage to the guard rail show where the truck came into trouble.
It came to rest about 50 metres onward, with a container full of furniture still in tact.
The coupling between the load and the cabin was badly morphed as the load overturned.
The truck is owned by Port Kembla-based Murrell Freight Lines.
A company spokesman told the Mercury the driver was unhurt.
‘‘He just said it [the load] moved,’’ the spokesman said.
Southbound traffic on the M1 is unaffected.
Police, Fire and Rescue NSW and RMS personnel are working at the site.
