But he's hoping to have the last laugh when he makes it as a professional golfer when they're "sitting on the couch".

The 14-year-old missed the cut in the Federal Amateur Open, finishing 14-over after the opening two rounds on Saturday.

NSW duo Nicholas Watts and Harrison Endycott both shot seven-under 65s to move to the top of the leaderboard going into the final two rounds.

Watts was two shots clear of Endycott, who was tied second with round-one leader Dylan Perry.

Brucic has been playing golf since he was "three or four" and also played soccer until he was 12.

His dad Tony, who caddied for him at the open, got him into the sport and now he plays off a handicap of two.

"He got me started when I was about three or four years old ... it was just something that clicked in my head and made me get attached to the game," Brucic said.

"It's different, but I like it. I'm seen as the different, special kid, let's put it that way.

"Most of the kids at my school play soccer, rugby, AFL or cricket. I'm definitely the odd one out of my mates.

"I just say, 'just wait until I have more money in my bank account, I'll be on TV, you'll be on the couch'."

Obviously, Brucic's dream is to turn pro, but if he doesn't make it he has sports psychology as a back-up.

His interest was piqued from reading some motivational cards.

"I'm hoping to make it my career. I've got back-up plans if that doesn't work, I still want to do something with golf," he said.

"I'm looking to do sports psychology, that's my back-up plan. I've started seeing a sports psychologist now and it's definitely opened up my eyes."

The final two rounds of the Federal Amateur Open will wrap up on Sunday.
