Mount Keira’s dilapidated old cafe building is finally facing a wrecking ball this week, to make way new food and drink offerings at the scenic lookout.

The asbestos-riddled, 55-year-old building has been closed since 2011.
The demolition works are expected to be finished by Christmas.
Also this week, the council has opened a tender for a food truck to operate in the park under a 12 month licence.
The move has been welcomed by Desintation Wollongong’s Mark Sleigh, through the Mount Keira Adventure Playground Facebook page.
“[While] it's not the final solution, at least visitors will finally be able to get a coffee and sandwich while they enjoy one of the best views in the world,” he wrote.
“Food truck culture has taken off around the world with some amazing and varied food offerings available.”
He said he was already aware of aware of three local restaurateurs planning food trucks.
Food van tenders close on December 16.
