Many of the pets donned their best Christmas costumes, some outdoing their humans when it came to posing for their annual paw-trait with the man in red.
RSPCA Illawarra Shelter animal attendant Alicia Smith said this was the fifth year the Illawarra shelter had held the fundraising activity, which last year raised $3,500.
Mrs Smith said while dogs and cats were the most common pets snapped, over the years Santa had also shared his lap with a bearded dragon, rats, mice, cockatiels and guinea pigs.
She said the secret to a successful Santa shot with pets was a squeaky toy or lots of treats.
The RSPCA is hosting the Santa photos on December 5, 12 and 13 at its Illawarra shelter at 54 Industrial Road Unanderra. The cost is $15 for two prints in a card and all money raised goes back to the Illawarra shelter. Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning 4271 3410.
