The Illawarra’s newest brewing company officially opened its doors in Keira Street Wollongong on Saturday. Five Barrel Brewing is like a cellar door experience for beer buffs with various ales including pale, golden, Christmas, Indian and some experimental batches up for tasting.

“I worked on the recipes over the last few years, then started brewing them at a large scale,” said owner Phillip O’Shea.
Two years ago he swapped Sydney’s hustle and bustle for beer, quitting his job in corporate IT to follow his passion and return to his home town. First began a website Crafty Brew selling Australian craft beer to help him gain more knowledge of the marketplace in preparation for his brewery. At the moment it’s just beer on the menu but Mr O’Shea hopes to expand in the future.
