Emergency services have converged on Flinders Street at Gipps Street, in aid of the 26-year-old male motorcylist injured in the crash.
Initial reports indicate the man has suffered a broken leg and fractured ribs.
Bystanders held sheets to shade the man from the sun as he received medical assistance on the road.
The crash occurred about 3.40pm Thursday.
It has caused the closure of the southbound lane of Flinders Street/Princes Highway.
An ambulance carrying the man departed for Wollongong Hospital about 4.15pm.
The police Crash Investigation Unit remains at the scene.
Traffic is heavy, with diversions onto Gipps Street in place as at 4.25pm.
Diversions onto Bourke Street were created as at 4.33pm, according to Live Traffic NSW.
The crash is not affecting northbound traffic.
