“I still want 90 per cent in all government projects,” the Port Kembla branch secretary of the Australian Workers Union said.
“We haven’t achieved it at this point in time. Bill [Shorten] is certainly well aware of our position. It’s the first step – I’m not going to let off on the 90 per cent; my members expect me to do it and I think it’s the right thing to do.
“So we’re going to continue to pursue it. I don’t want anyone to feel we have now dropped off because we haven’t.
“For me it now winds up the campaign even more because we’re getting close. We just need to push them over the edge to get that 90 per cent.”
Mr Phillips said the plan was “getting close to where we want to be”.
“The plan that’s been announced today is a good plan, it’s certainly heading in the right direction,” he said.
