“We welcome Labor’s focus on the steel industry and manufacturing, which are critical industries here in the Illawarra,” Ms Murphy said.
She added that the six-point plan included three strategies listed by the IBC in its submission to the Senate steel inquiry, one of which was the requirement that steel in government infrastructure projects conform to Australian standards.
Ms Murphy called on the government to visit the region.
“We invite the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, and the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Christopher Pyne to visit the Illawarra and talk with us about the significant economic benefits this industry brings to our region,” Ms Murphy said.
