Delaying the merger of Wollongong and Shellharbour councils is counterproductive, said Illawarra Business Chamber CEO Debra Murphy.

The business chamber was a supporter of the Wollongong-Shellharbour merger, saying it would allow for a united approach to state and federal governments and also provide for some economies of scale.
Ms Murphy said that, after the wait for a decision on the merger, some certainty is what was needed.
“I don’t think that it’s constructive at this juncture to be taking legal action because it is just delaying that certainty,” Ms Murphy said.
“Personally I think they should just get on with it, rather than keep fueling that uncertainty.”
