Almost 1500 dogs, accompanied by 2500 doting owners stepped out for the event at Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra with pets donning costumes, coloured fur and assorted accessories.
RSPCA Illawarra marketing coordinator Alexie Bull said so many pets were registered this year, it took about 15 minutes for everyone to get through the starting gate. Around $30,000 was expected to be raised from the Illawarra event, with all funds going to support the local Unanderra shelter.
“It’s a bit like a doggy’s big day out,” Ms Bull said. “There were competitions for the best dressed dogs, music, merchandise and food stalls and face painting and and everyone enjoyed the spirit of the day.”
