It is another example of the growing strength of the campaign, which has recently seen Nan Tien Temple’s Reverend Miao You and South Coast Labour Council secretary Arthur Rorris join as patrons for the Unanderra Access Group (UAG).
The group has been fighting for improved access to the station platform, which at present can only be accessed by two sets of stairs.
On Friday the Maritime Workers Union, the Australian Workers Union, the Rail Tram and Bus Union, the CFMEU and the National Tertiary Education Union joined the campaign.
“The friends that we have here from the union movement are not just here to support a good cause,” Mr Rorris said.
“They're here to support the miners, the steelworkers, the maritime workers, the university workers who are all part of this community.
“Many of their members actually live in this region and live in this vicinity. They are here because they do need access. Many of their members need these lifts to happen.”
Bec Schmidt from the UAG said it was important to keep widening the campaign.
“They [the government] keep saying it’s a community-based thing but we’ve now got businesses and union organisations on board to show that it’s not just us individuals who are asking for it,” she said.
The next move for the campaign is a pre-budget rally at the train station to be held on the following Saturday at 11am.
