After any big weather stir-up, the fish always move in and present easy targets and Phil, a visiting angler from Dubbo, fished the lake proper last week catching over 30 fish on soft plastics and 20 of them were well over legal.
Luderick are starting to move back in but if you’re looking for green weed it’s going to be tough for a bit until it starts to recover from the recent storms.
But don’t forget you can catch luderick in the lake on squirt worms or live nippers - you might also land a big winter whiting or bream too.
Keen local Thommo who spends more time on the rocks than he does at home, has been catching a few bream, pigs and trevally around the rocks at Bass Point and Kiama.
If the westerlies keep blowing, groper fishing should start to kick it so just grab your heavy duty gear, a few crab baits, a couple of urchins, have a cast into the washes and hang on.
The inshore reefs around the 30-metre depth range, have been holding some good reds after the big blow.
Plastic gulps and micro jigs accounted for a few good snapper but don’t overlook soaking a bait strip of striped tuna or fresh cuttlefish as they should get you hooked.
Kings are starting to move back in with the fishing only going to get better as the big hoodlums start to move around, fraying lines and anglers’ minds.
Just ask Lester Pearson who hooked some unstoppable brutes last weekend.
