Wet paint signs have just come down from a doctors surgery at number 405-407 which was given a makeover by Kiama artist Mikey Freedom over the past three days.
Verb Syndicate founder Simon Grant has had his eye on the building for some time, finding its “weird rendering” appealing.
After convincing its owners to let a spray can loose the Kiama creative was called in to complete the process.
Mr Freedom, who is responsible for other public artworks including on the side of Club Lime Wollongong and on the scout hall at Kiama Harbour, jumped at the chance to “beautify” the space opposite Wollongong Hospital.
“My whole schtick is to make uninviting places inviting and put life into areas that really need it,” he said.
“I think big bursts of colour sometimes speak for themselves.”
The image uses large blocks of colour to depict a hand placing a flower in a woman’s hair, with the aim of “injecting” positive emotions into anyone who comes in view of the giant artwork.
“First thing they get is colour in the face and the response has been pretty awesome actually,” he said.
“It’s about beautifying places and making places people actually want to be in.”

Mr Grant said there were plenty of beautiful buildings around West Wollongong and Mangerton but sadly it was an area that was often forgotten about.
“We’re actually looking at taking Wonderwalls up to that end of town and put more of a western focus on the event this year,” he said.
“There’s so many good buildings around … it’s a hidden gem of surfaces.”
He called the latest installation, completed Monday night, a “feeder” to other projects coming up.
Expect to see other buildings in Wollongong’s west to be given a lick of paint, while at the same time creating opportunities for young artists to hone their craft.
