Wollongong’s round-of-32 fixture was announced as one of four matches set to be broadcast live around the country on Fox Sports on Tuesday.
The game will be played at WIN Stadium on August 10 and shapes as a massive opportunity to thrust the Wolves back into the national spotlight.
“The date and schedule of the match is perfect,” Byron said.
“To get the game as one of the feature matches on Fox Sports is fantastic too because we know the crowd will turn up.”
The knockout fixture is the second time in the past three years that Wollongong has drawn an A-League opponent.
They were beaten 1-0 by Central Coast Mariners almost two years ago at the same venue.
The Wolves got more than 6000 supporters to the one-off fixture and are hopeful of drawing an even better crowd against the Sky Blues to further highlight the region’s potential as a possibly area for A-League expansion in the not too distant future.
“It’s a great opportunity for our supporters to come out and see a quality event in Wollongong which could be a good yard stick for the FFA to see what kind of support is possible in this region,” Byron said.
Tickets for the match are expected to go on sale early next week and will be available to Wolves members and season ticket holders first before the general public.
