It’s a milestone that may never be reached after the NSW government delivered greyhound racing a knockout blow last week.
On Sunday, Dapto Greyhound Racing Club directors and a handful of its members gathered for closed-door meetings, where the future of the sport dominated discussions. The club is determined to fight the planned July 1, 2017 shutdown and legal action hasn’t been ruled out.
“We’re certainly going to be open to exploring what our options are,” Dapto Greyhounds secretary manager Katrina Novak said.
“There’s always a concern that there’ll be lots of little groups starting up [action but] it is a time to come together as an industry and then collectively work out a plan forward.”
Ms Novak said the “greyhound community” was supporting each other.
“For some of these [trainers] it’s generational … and for many it’s their livelihood.”
