An early header six yards out from Jackson Brooks had United on track to lift the silverware just five minutes into the decider.
But the Sharks made sure they went into the sheds at half time on level pegging when Kyle Del pounced first on a rebound in first half stoppage time.
Scores were locked at 1-1 for much of the second half with chances were few and far between. It seemed as if one goal would decide it either way.
That chance fell to United’s Jake Leighton, who had his deflected effort from just outside the area find the back of the net.
The goal was enough to see United hold on in the dying stages and collect the trophy in 2016.
The Sharks had won the same final 12 months earlier when they shocked the Fury to claim a 3-1 victory.
