The new late night venue offering quality food until 3am opened in Western Crown Street on Friday night.
Heyday is the latest venture for Wollongong entrepreneur Adam Murphy whose business career started in IT with MCT Solutions.
But he wants to do more to bring more life to the city centre at all times of the day and night.
HeyDay can best be described as a lounge bar that operates late at night rather than a nightclub that previously occupied the site.
It boasts large leather lounges inside and is modeled on the 1940s golden era of Hollywood.
There is also an outdoor garden area.
Mr Murphy has designed it to not be the same as his other venue Humber with its rooftop bar and ground level day trade.
HeyDay is located about 100 metres west of Humber.
He said Heyday was about making a positive contribution and activating an area that has already had a number of new food and drink venues open in recent years.
Mr Murphy said a vibrant small bar culture was really starting to emerge in the city.
“The continued year on year decrease in alcohol related violence, for the last several years, shows that the mixture of bars, food and entertainment options are proving popular for creating a safe and active CBD. Wollongong is growing and changing. And it’s exciting to be involved,” he said.
