Construction teams with experience in playground renovations were asked to tender for work on replacing equipment at Balgownie’s James Pearson Park, Lakelands Oval, Windang’s Pine Treet Park, Bellambi Point Reserve and to parks in Farmborough Heights.
For the $100,000 upgrade planned for Bellambi Point Reserve, and two $60,000 upgrades at Charles Stimson and Primrose parks in Farmborough Heights, children from nearby schools and playgroups were asked to come up with a wishlist for their ideal playgrounds.
Contractors will have to use these ideas to design the new equipment, according to tender documents on the council’s website.
The kids pointed out the Bellambi Point equipment was damaged, with monkey bars that were too high to reach, broken amenities and rubbish polluting the area.
They requested new equipment including a flying fox, trampolines, giant swing, wobble bench, water play and places for parents to sit and watch. However, the most popular suggestion involved improving the toilet block, which the kids said needed to be cleaned regularly and have “normal” doors.
