Buses will replace trains between Dapto and Central and also between Port Kembla and Wollongong from 2am on Saturday until 2am Monday.
“To take trains off the tracks at a time like this is shameful,” Mr Park said.
“Trackwork should have been carried out before the closure so as to minimise the impact on road and rail users.”
Mr Park, Labor’s Illawarra spokesman, obtained documents under Freedom of Information that he says reveal a “lack of communication” between Roads and Maritime Services, Transport for NSW and Sydney Trains in the lead up to the Bulli Pass closure.
A Transport for NSW spokesman said all relevant authorities were “working closely together and our priority is to keep people moving throughout the closure”, adding it had “been in planning since February”.
“Trackwork is vital for the safe running of our rail services, scheduled a year in advance, and organised when the network is at its quietest,” the spokesman said.
“We always provide alternative travel arrangements for customers and these are always communicated well in advance.
“We’ve said all along that we will be closely monitoring the closure to ensure disruptions to the community are kept to a minimum.”
