The State of the Beaches report found that all beaches from Stanwell Park to Gerroa were rated either “very good” or “good”, with no changes at any beaches on last year’s results.
Rated as very good were Stanwell Park, Coledale, Austinmer, Woonona, City Beach, Coniston, Fishermans Beach, Warilla, Shellharbour and Werri Beach.
Based on water quality samples taken every six days, these were assessed as having excellent water quality and were suitable for swimming “almost all of the time”.
Surf Beach at Kiama had recorded elevated enterococci bacteria levels after minor rainfall, leading to a recommendation that swimming be avoided for a day after significant rain.
Similar swimming advice was given for Wollongong’s “good”-rated beaches.
