When it comes to Windang Road, it’s not the road itself that’s the problem it’s the drivers.

That’s the consensus from comments on the Mercury’s Facebook page about the news that the government was looking into safety measures for the road after a spate of accidents.
Nothing wrong with the road,” wrote Steve Pollock.
“It's the drivers that have the accidents. You need to drive to the road conditions.”
Kate Pallone agreed and she said she had personal experience of the issues on that stretch of road.
“I live on Windang Road and put my indicator on and start slowing down ages before my driveway and nearly always have a car speed up behind me and nearly causing a accident,” she wrote.
“Just this morning I was doing the 80km speed limit and had multiple cars fly past me.”
I do get overtaken by almost every second car as I seem to be one of the limited few doing the speed limit.

Diane Beck has noticed the same problems for people trying to get in and out of their driveways.
“There have been numerous near misses for residents trying to get in their driveways because of the speeders down the left lanes,” she wrote.
Several people want to see an increased police presence along Windang Road, while one reader made the suggestion of introducing a point-to-point speed camera from the Primbee exit to the Windang Bridge.
For Glenn Miller, several speed cameras would solve the problem and make people slow down.
“I have driven along the road and sat on 80km and had drivers overtake me like I was standing still - from P platers upwards,” he said.
Michelle Penfold felt the speed limit needed to be lowered from 80km/h as she felt that was too fast.
“The road itself seems okay to me and I travel it both ways each day but I do get overtaken by almost every second car as I seem to be one of the limited few doing the speed limit,” she wrote.
Nikki Gallagher had a more pessimistic view, feeling safety measures wouldn’t do much to change the behaviour of some road users.
“Cameras and safety fences won't do jack,” she said.
“The problem is with all the idiots that won't stop drag racing. My younger brother has lost at least two friends this way and still hasn't learned his lesson.”
