Poor weather conditions have prevented fishing wide so as an option, kingfish have become the prime game target at present, especially around Bass Point and off Rangoon Island.

Most rock platforms have had kingfish sighted, hooked, lost or landed this past week or so.
Nick and Peter Hodgkins went down to Beecroft with Nick hooking a big kingie on a popper but unfortunately it got cut off on reef.
Catching kings out of a boat is much easier than off the stones as boat-based you can get over the top of them, but catching them off the rocks is a real challenge.
Bringing them to the rocks is one thing but then getting near enough for a secure landing or gaff shot is another. Many land-based captures go awry at this point.
On the reefs, snapper are still an option if you can get out when wind and swell allow and Kiama charter boat MV Seeker is just one of the local charter fleet always chasing these tasty table species.
Paul “Fertspread” Wyer has been racking up some reasonable catches that come about from consistently being out there and doing the hard yards in searching the right spots.
A recent trip saw him bring in several good reds with the best going 3.6kg.
There were also some very sizable rubber lip mowies in the mix as well.
Hopefully there is another tuna run before the dolphin fish and marlin arrive and there should also be tiger sharks out over the canyons.
Now is the time for tackle preparation but also be aware, there are still quite a few whales enjoying their migration – give them a wide berth.
