Mr Foley is among a number of reinforcements, from higher places, who have been called upon by candidates ahead of polling day.
Labor candidate Paul Scully has been publicly supported by no less than a dozen of the party’s members since he was revealed as its candidate on August 12.
Federal Labor Leader Bill Shorten joined the campaign trail late last month, the entire NSW shadow cabinet visited town in September and state MPs have been snapped in pre-poll pictures.
Asked if his regular visits were because Labor feared losing the byelection, Mr Foley said they were “because Labor cares about Wollongong”.
“I will be there again on Saturday,” he told the Mercury.
Meanwhile, the Greens also called in prominent party members this campaign.
The party’s federal leader, Richard Di Natale, was in Wollongong for two days last month to support Cath Blakey.
