Police allege Ivan Mlacic, 67, had turned the Murray Park Road home he shared with others into a drug den and was using the property as a base from which to sell amounts of heroin to customers.

Court documents claim a male and female known to police were covertly recorded entering the house around 5.30pm on November 30 intending to buy drugs.

It is alleged they handed $500 to Mlacic in exchange for three balloons containing 0.85 grams of heroin.

Police later seized the balloons and their contents.

Officers obtained a search warrant and raided the property just after dawn on Wednesday.

It is alleged they found $3,000 cash, heat sealed bags containing heroin, two plastic bags containing 8.6 grams of ice, two mobile phones, SIM cards and a fake CCTV camera set up at the front door to give the impression the house was electronically monitored.

Prosecutors opposed bail, labelling the case against Mlacic “extremely strong”.

They noted he had previous convictions for drugs and child abuse matters; one of the current charges relates to allegations Mlacic failed to declare a second mobile phone to police as per his obligations under the Child Protection Register.

His lawyer, Melissa Humphries, said Mlacic would agree to strict bail conditions including twice daily reporting to police if released.

However, Magistrate Darryl Pearce said there was a strong likelihood Mlacic would serve “many years in jail” if convicted of the charges.

He remanded Mlacic in custody and adjourned the case to February 15.
