The Warrigal Community Walk will start at 10 am at Wollongong Harbour and Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell said it provided an opportunity to celebrate older people in our community.
“A team of over 150 staff, residents and volunteers are participating in the walk,” Mr Sewell said.
“The response from our residents, staff and volunteers has been overwhelming.
“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to join Warrigal’s Team Inspire with important funds raised for Anglicare, to help disadvantaged families in the Illawarra take positive steps towards change”.
The walk will take part on a flat 3.5 km course around the harbour which will be both pram and wheelchair friendly.
The walk takes in lower boat harbour for the first one kilometre, then along Wollongong’s Blue Mile to North Wollongong Surf Club and returns to finish at the scenic Wollongong Harbour.
Warrigal Figtree Village resident Jean Whittle has encouraged 20 of her fellow village residents to participate in this year’s event.
“I love the Australia Day Community Walk,” she said.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to be active and feel part of the community.”
This year there will be entertainment for children and adults alike including motivational speakers at the start line.
Each person will be photographed as they complete the walk and all participants will receive a Warrigal T-Shirt and Cap as part of Warrigal’s Team Inspire.
The entertainment will continue at the post-race festivities which will include dancing performances, face painting, balloons, music as well as a free BBQ breakfast.
