The work, which started on Sunday, is expected to take five weeks to complete, said Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward.
“Roads and Maritime Services will be carrying out geotechnical investigation work within the proposal study area,” Mr Ward said.
“The information gathered will help in developing the design for the proposal and work involves drilling boreholes and digging test pits to investigate ground conditions.”
At times there will be some restricted parking within the commuter car park as part of this work.
The preferred concept plan for the interchange at the base of Mt Ousley includes a separate bypass lane for heavy vehicles and a northern entrance to the University of Wollongong.
