But the 36ers were unable to go on with the job as they slumped to a 100-94 defeat at WIN Entertainment Centre.
Adelaide coach Joey Wright felt his team let their chance slip.
"We had some opportunities out there when it was a tied ball game or we were up a couple," he said.
"A few possessions could have been a bit cleaner. Our offence got real stagnant.
“We played pretty close to how we wanted to play tonight. I thought it was a great game.
“If we'd just done one or two things different we're talking a different game.
"There's not many adjustments [needed] at this point. We know what they're running, they know what we're running. We'll just come out and see what happens."
They’ll get another opportunity at home on Thursday night.
