The Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) truck arrived at Dapto fire station this week, with NSW Emergency Services Minister Troy Grant on hand for its delivery.
The truck is part of a fleet of new firefighting vehicles being rolled out statewide.
Mr Grant said the CAFS appliance would boost Fire and Rescue NSW’s (FRNSW) capability to deal with fires.
“This puts FRNSW firefighters ahead of the game when it comes to managing hazardous fires,” he said.
Parliamentary secretary for the Illawarra, and Kiama MP, Gareth Ward said the CAFS truck would allow firefighters to extinguish “large and deep-seated fires quicker than just using water”.
“The foam, which is sprayed onto buildings and acts as a barrier to flames, is biodegradable and reduces the risk of runoff into nearby waterways,” Mr Ward said
“It also allows firefighters to conserve water when they’re battling these large-scale fires.
“This new truck will boost fire and emergency protection for suburbs around Dapto.”
Dapto firefighters responded to more than 465 fire and emergency calls in the 2015/16 financial year.
