In what proved to be a tough slog up the Kembla straight, Rosaruby ($5.50) held off Godolphin’s Divine Sanction ($4.60) and the fast-finishing $2.80 favourite Spooky Wooky, trained by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, to win the staying test.
Blake Shinn rode Rosaruby to victory.
Megawatt, trained by Craig Ritchie, set the race alight at the 600m pool and dashed for home before eventually fading to finish fourth.
Meanwhile, Edward Cummings had his first winner as a co-trainer with father Anthony when Screamarr won race two.
The father-son duo were approved to become a training partnership by Racing NSW Stewards earlier this week.
